How Mining Works

SMALL NODES

Hand-mined. Each harvest yields 1 item per break.

MEDIUM NODES

Hand-mined. Yields multiple items per break.

LARGE NODES

Require the Sonic Resonator. Highest yield — Lead, Gold, big Titanium and Quartz nodes all need it.

By Region

ThumbRegionWhat You’ll Find
Safe Shallow — region reference
Safe Shallow
Spawn zone
TitaniumQuartzCopper
Titanium — scrap & debris on the seafloor — the most common material, base of all crafting · Quartz — common on the seabed; formed by coral polyps — basis for glass · Copper — almost exclusively in caves, on ceilings; the cave under the lifepod has a vein
Crab Path — region reference
Crab Path
Between Shallows and the first wreck fields
TitaniumCopperSilverSalt
Titanium — scrap & debris · Copper — on walls & rock formations between Safe Shallow and Crab Path; cave walls near Chap’s black box are lined with it · Silver — large silver ore outside the black-box cave; also scattered on the seafloor · Salt — cave floors and seabed
Camp One — region reference
Camp One
Starting base area
TitaniumSilver
Titanium — small & medium deposits around the camp · Silver — rarest mineral in the game — almost always near black boxes; small chunks in the cave north of Camp One with green anemone-like growths (tied to the bloom)
Old Habitat — region reference
Old Habitat
Below the Shallow/Coral Garden shelf
Silver
Silver — small deposits in the largest cave found so far, under the Shallow/Coral Garden area — watch the green growths near the ceiling silver
North Graveyard / Crash Site — region reference

LeadTitaniumQuartz
Lead — high concentration — most large nodes need a Sonic Resonator · Titanium — mostly large nodes — needs Sonic Resonator · Quartz — large veins — needs Sonic Resonator, drops lots
Hydrothermal Vent Garden — region reference
Hydrothermal Vent Garden
Requires the Heat-Resistant Gene
SulfurTitaniumGoldLithiumQuartz
Sulfur — attached to the vent walls · Titanium — plentiful · Gold — on the spires — needs Sonic Resonator; easy to miss, odd shapes · Lithium — caves below the tailings village · Quartz — rarer here than elsewhere
The Mesa — region reference

Watch the Collector Leviathan overhead
TitaniumCelestineQuartzCopper
Titanium — big, obvious nodes · Celestine — grows on rock faces on the seafloor — use the rocks as cover from the Collector Leviathan · Quartz — common · Copper — large veins, but less common than elsewhere
Gateway Spires — region reference
Gateway Spires
Route to the alien ruins
TitaniumLeadCopperQuartzSalt
Titanium — large nodes · Lead — large nodes · Copper — large nodes · Quartz — large nodes · Salt — near the upcurrents leading to the alien ruins

Mineral Index

MineralWhereNotes
TitaniumEverywhereFrom scrap & debris. The base material of all crafting and base building — SN2’s equivalent of cobblestone.
QuartzCommonFormed by coral polyps — found wherever coral grows. Basis for glass.
CopperCavesAlmost exclusively cave ceilings; the lifepod cave and Crab Path walls have reliable veins.
SilverBlack boxesThe rarest mineral. Almost always near black boxes — Camp One cave, Old Habitat cave. Often tied to bloom growths.
LeadNorth GraveyardHigh concentration at the crash site; most large nodes need a Sonic Resonator.
SaltCrab Path & GatewayCave floors, seabed, and the upcurrents by Gateway Spires.
SulfurHydrothermal ventsAttached to vent walls in the Hydrothermal Vent Garden (needs Heat-Resistant Gene).
GoldHydrothermal spiresOn the spires in the Vent Garden — needs a Sonic Resonator.
LithiumVent Garden cavesCaves below the tailings village in the Hydrothermal Vent Garden.
CelestineThe MesaGrows on seafloor rock faces; the area is patrolled by the Collector Leviathan.
AtacamiteRoot CanyonCommunity addition (r/subnautica) — Root Canyon is the celestine/atacamite bottleneck for MK2 upgrades.
